Welcome to Melissa Marciszko Photography! I’m glad you’ve found us and delighted to give you a glimpse into the love story that brought me here and turned me into the photographer that I hope you will trust with your most treasured moments. I am blessed to be a wife, married to my college sweetheart who continues to hold my heart and be my joy. We dreamt endlessly about starting a family and when SHE finally arrived, all warmth and joy and flawless perfection, my entire world was altered in every wonderful way possible. Taking pictures has always been part of who I am, but the birth of my cherished daughter turned a talent into my calling. Photography was no longer just about capturing a beautiful moment; it suddenly represented the preservation of the most beloved memories of my lifetime. This little being was transforming with each passing minute – her smiles growing wider to show off budding new teeth, the delicate hands replaced by precious chubby fists. The fleeting nature of childhood is a palpable thing…the days pile up on top of each other and turn swiftly into years. I realized that I wanted to document the milestones and the love and the chaos and all the space in between. I stumbled upon a beautiful quote by Katie Thurms that resonates so brilliantly with my own story:
“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.”
Prophetic words that perfectly sum up what I do on a daily basis. These precious babies grow and change by leaps and bounds that first year, more so than any other time in their lives. I wanted to become an expert at capturing a moment in vivid detail before it became a memory. I quickly realized that giving the same tangible evidence of days gone by to other families is what I was meant to do. For me, they are never just photographs. They are my purpose.
I have been privileged to participate in hands-on workshops given by two renowned photographers whose innovative ideas changed the face of newborn portraiture. During my training, I enjoyed a long term mentorship with a local family and lifestyle photographer, which served as an invaluable learning experience and allowed me to explore photography from the viewpoint of a seasoned veteran. It would be my great honor to be chosen to stand inside your circle and show you the love that lives around your family through my portraits.
The What and Why
A Safe Place
There is nothing of greater importance than being trusted to handle the youngest among us, so I’ve taken multiple workshops and courses on newborn safety and posing. To that end, the safety of your child is paramount to all else and we take pride in using the absolute highest level of precaution. Magnificent artwork can only occur if it comes second to the assurance of safety. In addition to being professionally trained on the proper care and handling of a newborn within the parameters of a photo shoot, there is always an assistant with me during that first precious session with your baby. My spotter serves as far more than just a second set of eyes – her first and only priority is to keep her eyes or hands on the baby at all times while I attend to the mechanical side of the shoot, such as adjusting backdrops and camera settings. We do not take our role lightly and are vigilant when it comes to the protection of your youngest family members, to the point that my primary assistant is Infant/Child CPR Certified.
When Expertise Matters
Turning a moment caught behind my lens into an heirloom goes far beyond the application of a pre-generated filter applied in mass to a group of photos. I edit each image by hand using a painstaking process that while time consuming, pays attention to each and every detail of the image. Nuanced work with light and color are the difference between a photograph and a work of art. Your most cherished memory will likely be an unplanned moment that I captured when you least expected as your family shared an inside joke, or it is nestled in the space between your new baby’s little hiccup and the subsequent squirm. The beauty is hidden in all the little details and paying attention to those is critical to the creation of your dream portraits.
My focus is not only the physical taking of your photographs, but also involves ensuring that your time is taken into consideration and my schedule is therefore thoughtfully and carefully managed. I accept only a limited amount of bookings so that you can be assured that your photographer is available when your baby arrives. I also do not overbook my fall family sessions so that your experience is never rushed. I leave time purposely open each week so that reschedules are simple to arrange when the unpredictable Texas weather changes her tune or your child happens to fall ill. Life happens and we work hard to always be prepared for it.
