Kids, Cooperation and Photoshoots
Well, hello friends! The seasons have shifted since my last post. Valentines have hit the stores, the days are getting incrementally longer and being a Dallas Family Photographer means that I’m just as likely to show up at a shoot wearing short sleeves as I am my heaviest coat and gloves. This can only mean one thing, y’all…late winter has officially arrived in North Texas! It’s time to come out of blogging hibernation and I have lots to share with my favorite readers and clients.
Our blog is inevitably quiet during the busy fall photography season, thanks to a full roster of family sessions and my promises to keep those images a secret for Christmas cards and gifts. While the website may have been resting lately, our team has been bustling with activity! We’ve specifically been hard at work mulling over the topics and questions we hear most often from our prospective clients. Let’s jump right in with one of the biggest worries parents face when thinking about having their family professionally photographed – the unruly child who won’t cooperate.
My child never smiles…won’t sit still…is scared of strangers…
Y’all, I hear this sort of thing a lot. Please let me ease your mind and speak to your heart for a second. Everyone is worried about this. Kids aren’t exactly known for their patience and they all go bananas at some point. If your children happen to lose their collective minds during a session, I can assure you that I won’t be fazed. Or bothered. Or surprised. (I’m a mother, remember?)
The funny thing is, YOU will likely be the one who is surprised! While I’m certainly not a magician, I have several tried and true tricks up my sleeve that have managed to coax a sweet moment out of even the most stubborn little one! I’m more than willing to pull all the rabbits out of my hat until we find the one that does the job and gives us that perfect photo. Even the most anxious and fearful littles can be persuaded to participate if you will put your trust in me and the process. Photographing families and their adorable maniacs is my thing! Put that worry away!
Case in point – this absolutely precious little two-and-a-half year old, Mr. William! His sweet parents definitely had their concerns. They’ve always struggled to get a smile from him in pictures and they just weren’t sure how a photography session would work out. They were thrilled when my partner and I were able to get a fabulous grin for his school portraits and promptly hired me for a full family session!
As a Dallas family photographer, these are the moments that I cherish above all. Illustrating the love between parents and their little ones seriously brings me all. the. joy. – especially when mom and dad think it can’t be done. (And even if your kiddo happens to have a tantrum or two!)
My chosen location for this session required a walk past the playground, so the perfect ending for our session was the reward of play time. We all won in this situation! I was able to cap off their experience by capturing William as they know him best – happily at play.
The resulting portraits turned out so beautifully – William’s smile lights up everything around him! Mom is already planning another session this spring featuring that mega-watt smile and his grandparents!
I can find your children’s smiles, too!
If you have considered hiring a Dallas Family Photographer, but worries over your children’s cooperation have kept you from taking the next steps, I would love to help! Successful family photography sessions depend on the photographer having enough time and patience to create a sense of trust and camaraderie with their littlest subjects. Fostering this atmosphere is incredibly important to me and I’m careful never to overbook my time for that very reason. I also leave room for changes due to inclement weather or illnesses requiring rescheduling. My goal is to alleviate the stress of having family portraits made so that everyone has the chance to preserve their most precious memories in print.
I’m proud to provide an attentive and highly personalized experience when chosen as your Dallas Family Photographer. We offer quick turn around on images, no longer than two weeks, but often within only one. If you would like to discuss the specific needs of your crew and how I can help you create the perfect family portrait, I would love to hear from you!
